Associate Trainee

The Associate Trainee Programme is aimed at law students who have completed 150 study credits or more. As an associate trainee, you will have a chance to spread your wings in the world of business law as you join our firm for a fixed period of four months and familiarise yourself with the versatile profession of a lawyer.

During your traineeship, you will work as part of a team specialising in the area of law that interests you the most. You get to take part in real-life projects and learn by actually being involved in versatile assignments.

Tasks

Associate trainees work full-time in one of our eight practice groups: M&A, Finance, Real Assets, Competition and Regulatory, Employment, Tax, Dispute Resolution, and IP & Technology. The work description for an associate trainee is quite similar to that of a newly qualified associate lawyer, and it includes, for example, carrying out research, gathering information, and preparing draft documentation.

Ideally, applicants should have completed at least 150 study credits before applying. In addition, fluency in English and Finnish is required in the Associate Trainee Programme.

Practicalities

Associate trainees work full-time for a fixed period of four months.

The Associate Trainee Programme starts in January, May, and September. The application period for the spring and summer programmes usually starts in August and for the autumn programme in February.

“Working as an associate trainee at a top tier law firm has been an incredibly valuable experience. I have especially enjoyed the fact that I have been able to work with a team specialising in what interests me the most and seen and taken part in interesting assignments and projects. As an associate trainee, you get all the support you need from your colleagues while being allowed to challenge yourself with new, difficult tasks every day. At Hannes Snellman, the assignments have great variation, which makes the learning curve very steep and the job rewarding. Combine that with a nice working environment and fun, non-work related events, and you’ve got yourself quite the traineeship!” – Associate Trainee, autumn 2021
